Dec 2014: Motivational Speech to Engineering Students @ University of Datyon

From Dec. 2014: I was asked to make a motivational speech to inspire international students in Engineering at the University of Dayton (OH). Unfortunately, they didn't film this and I recorded it myself but the recorder didn't have enough space at the end so the recording is incomplete. The purpose was to help the class, most of which consisted of international students, feel inspired and realize it's possible for them to get adjusted to North American life. Their professor had reached out to me to fly down there to motivate and inspire them - and I accepted.

"This Week in BC Minor League Sports" with KP Wee - on CJSF 90.1 FM to be aired Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014

The focus in Episode 3 of "This Week in BC Minor League Sports" is the BC Major Midget League, although I also mention a few newsworthy items about SFU Athletics. It is also fun to do public service announcements, including the ones relating to the SFU Chapter of Young Women in Business (YWiB SFU) and their upcoming March 8th conference.

Here is Episode 3.

After a nine-month hiatus, I was finally back at CJSF 90.1 FM, and this time with a brand new show titled This Week in BC Minor League Sports.

The focus is the BC Major Midget League, although for the first couple of shows I did talk about SFU Athletics and other sports news. It is also fun to do public service announcements, including the ones relating to the SFU Chapter of Young Women in Business.

Here is the first episode of the program from Saturday, January 25, 2014.

Here is the second episode from Saturday, February 1, 2014.

August 28, 2011 - Tri-City Dust Devils @ Vancouver Canadians (final home game of the regular season) - with KP Wee calling the action

I was given the opportunity to broadcast the middle three innings of the Vancouver Canadians' 2011 regular-season home finale at Scotiabank Field on August 28, 2011. I finally had a chance to upload these files today after digging them up from my recorder.

In this contest, a Sunday afternoon affair, the Canadians were trying to complete a five-game series sweep of the Tri-City Dust Devils. It's really fun doing these broadcasts because for each of these play-by-play opportunities, I get to research the statistics and playoff scenarios as well as the events/promotions at the ballpark beforehand and then talk about them on the air. It's really fun!

Valley West coach Tom Spencer, captain Paul Savage, and goaltender Cole Forbes were kind enough to provide us with the soundbites after the game.

On the South Island side, I was fortunate enough to catch up with high-scoring forward Haydn Hopkins just before the Royals team bus was scheduled to leave the arena.

August 6, 2011 - Spokane @ Vancouver - Jesse Hernandez pitches a gem on Hall of Fame and Fireworks Night - with KP Wee calling the action

During the 2011 Vancouver Canadians championship season, I was fortunate enough to work in the Media Relations Department and one of my biggest thrills was having the opportunity to call a few innings of an August 6 game at historic Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium in Vancouver, BC.

It was also Hall of Fame and Fireworks Night at the ballpark, and after I was done with my media tasks, I was asked to broadcast the sixth inning of the ballgame. I was not prepared for it but jumped at the opportunity. When the seventh inning came, I was ready to leave the booth but they liked my work enough that they gave me the chance to broadcast the rest of the game.

It was certainly one of my most memorable nights at the ballpark. Fortunately, I did record the broadcast on my own and I have decided to post it here:

This link here is the sixth inning of the ballgame, with Canadians pitcher Jesse Hernandez pitching a gem against the Spokane Indians.

BCMML Interviews - November/December 2013

Just because I haven't had time to do my radio shows, it does not mean I have totally abandoned doing media-related work.

I have begun to attend BC Major Midget League games this fall, and have had a chance to interview coaches and players from the various teams in the league. I will attempt to update this blog on a weekly basis as new interviews take place.

Here are some of the interviews from the Okanagan Rockets-Vancouver North East Chiefs contest on Saturday, November 30, 2013 in Coquitlam, BC (a 7-2 victory by Okanagan), with Rockets head coach Mack O'Rourke, goaltender Reid Kilburn, and captain Branden Wagner providing us with the soundbites:

Here are the interviews from the Cariboo Cougars-Vancouver North West Giants game on Sunday, December 1, 2013 in Burnaby, BC (a 6-4 win by the Giants), with Cougars head coach Bryan MacLean, captain Scott Cullen, and goalie Lane Delfs chatting with me:

Blog update

It's been a while since I have updated this blog, and that's because I haven't had time to do my radio shows. Also, I found out that the links for the shows are not permanent, meaning they have expired and no longer work. I will, in the next little while, try to upload them onto YouTube and re-post them.

Cheers.
